CONGRATULATIONS AND HAPPY 20 YEARS OF B.O.N.E. By: Jo Ann Corbett To George Streeter and your 20th Anniversary celebration of B.O.N.E. (Best of the North East) Treasure Hunter’s weekend. We send our best wishes and greetings to you for another successful 20 more years and continued success with metal detecting and the weekend convention! We can remember (as if it were yesterday) meeting George Street for the first time at a F.M.D.A.C. (Federation of Metal Detecting and Archeological Club) hunt and meeting (treasure hunting weekend) held in Atlantic City, New Jersey. That was over 20 years ago when Jim & I were new to the hobby, new members in our local club, M.J.R.R.C. (Mid-Jersey Research & Recovery Club), and also new members to the F.M.D.A.C. We’ve heard of the ‘name’ (George Streeter) within the metal detecting hobby and business and for us to actually be meeting and seeing him in person was a thrilling event for us – “A Legend in Metal Detecting”. The introductions and greetings were short and sweet but it made a blast of an impression on us! The F.M.D.A.C. was growing with membership and along with that grew the F.M.D.A.C. Chapters. George volunteered and served (as well as being voted-in) as President of the North East Chapter. Jo Ann was the President of the M.A.E.C.C. (Mid-Atlantic East Coast Chapter). At that time, the F.M.D.A.C. and Chapters’s main goals were obtaining local and non-local state laws for metal detecting in parks, Federal and City lands, etc. Working closely with George and his organization and people, and with combined efforts of all the others, we obtained the correct laws and we were able to distribute and disburse throughout the United States for all of our clubs to benefit by. Our Federation and Chapters (at that time) communicated and assisted any member with questions, equipment, supplies, etc., etc. It was a great organization helping others. Our law seeking searches lead into Europe and the Caribbean and other island, foreign lands as well. Metal detecting was becoming a family to Jim and I and George was part of that family for us. Jim and I enjoyed many vacations and treasure expeditions with George such as to: Aruba, Barbados and Spain. The news and laws which we distributed was well researched and on-hand experienced. Jim and George furthered their ambitions with more year-to-year excursions, which included old and new acquaintances. Between photos, articles, newsletters (and now we have emails, web sites, face book and other new modern electronic devices which are beyond my intelligence), but at that time there was no end in sight or no reason NOT to continue the hobby of metal detecting or for us to discontinue the searches and quests and to fight for the hobby to prosper and grow richly in gold, silver, jewelry, relics, coins, sinkers, nails, bottle caps and don’t forget the pull tabs! Along with skill and brilliance in the hobby of metal detecting, you must also keep up with the latest equipment and technology. Over the past 20 years, George Streeter and Streeter Electronics/Treasure Hunting Supply Company has been an asset in this department. Any equipment (detectors, scoops, head phones, batteries, diggers, aprons, gold pans, etc.); knowledge (books, magazines, newsletters); maps, history sights, vacations spots, contacts, equipment repairs, sharing any kind of information; you can acquire with or through George and his store. “IF” there was ever anything George could not help you with, be assured he would immediately offer and give you a contact or other proper assistance. This man, George Streeter, lives, eats, and breathes for metal detecting (24 / 7). It is his life! He loves it! There is no denying him of his knowledge and expertise. He’s an excellent business man and knows his stuff! He has that jolly ole smile and laugh to make those who meet him or know him enjoy and dive in further to expose the treasures of metal detecting. He can and will lighten-up your worst and deepest day with everything he knows and is involved with in the hobby of metal detecting. After some 20 years with George Streeter the stories, ideas, adventures, hunting finds and experiences could go on and on forever! Because love and friendship is eternal and ever lasting. The hobby of metal detecting is F A M I L Y. That is how we sum up George – he is like family to us! Whether near or far, he is always there for you. The love and friendship we’ve developed is more precious than gold or silver. George you are our family! When you attend a B.O.N.E. adventure, these are just ‘some’ of the things you will encounter: The weekend begins on a Friday ‘day’ into the Friday ‘evening’ with setting-up the convention hall with tables and chairs and busy workers. Dinner was found somewhere in between the minutes and hours (which after experience, suggestions and help), dinner turned into a home-cooked meal by volunteers and the local church people. It was an evening of fun and laughter amongst manufacturers, dealers, club members, non-club members, any able body willing to help. Working together in unity was the key to success, another great quality of metal detecting and its people! Saturday’s began bright and early (AFTER leaving hotel accommodations very suitable, reasonable and close by to the event). During the day, there was never a dull moment. So much to see. So much to do. So much to share. Games for the kids to try and win! There was always a wide range of different topics for all ages, sizes and shapes to enjoy! The entire convention hall was full of table set-ups and separate rooms for seminars and speakers with their presentations and displays. Tables were always available for any club to set-up and display their finds, promotional items and goods. Gold and silver coin raffles and raffle tickets sold by the arm lengths. George NEVER forgot the children at the St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital – every year he has a raffle to support them! Let’s not forget the gold panning and competition! “IF” you could not find something enjoyable during the day of the convention, then you did not belong there and something was wrong with you!! Saturday evenings (AFTER clean-up at the convention hall), we enjoyed a delicious home-cooked meal provided by the local church and parishioners (hosted by George’s brother). During and after the meal, more raffles and the hi-lite of the evening were THE AWARDS! With George’s humor, laughter and imagination and seriousness of the hobby many exciting awards were honored. For several years, Jim and I presented “THE GOOSE BALL AWARD”. It was a silly, exotic, Kodak moment captured and blown-up and presented to the unexpected. Jokes and laughter continued throughout the evening. All in attendance shared in the fun. George always made sure there were door prizes for each and all attendants. This was George’s way to show and share his kindness and appreciation to all who attended. Sunday’s the grand hunts began. You never knew what kind of goodies you would recover and retrieve. Or what fascinations brewed inside George’s head to have different and exciting hunts! Surprises and suspense keeps B.O.N.E. alive and growing stronger with success each year! Very good reasons to return year after year too. Jim and I cannot express enough to you how grateful we are and that we truly appreciate that you push and continue on with B.O.N.E. year-after-year-after-year. You remind us of the old sayings: “…for better or worse…”; “…through sickness and health…” ; “…no rain, snow or sleet will stop me…”; nothing could ever stop you, George, from what you enjoy most in life and what joy you give back to others! George you are the BEST and you know WE LOVE YA J We also acknowledge the fact that B.O.N.E. would not be a tremendous success without the support, service and back-up of your club members, volunteers, friends and family members. Including the relationships you have developed with the manufacturers, dealers, local shops and companies. “Kiddos” and “hats off to you”, George, and the entire B.O.N.E. organization J For a job well done at the first B.O.N.E., for the incredible job you are doing for the upcoming 20th B.O.N.E., and cheers for all the future B.O.N.E.’s to come - CONGRATULATIONS with our deepest and sincere greetings and GOOD LUCK with another 20 YEARS OF B.O.N.E. With All Our Love, From your dearest friends, Jo Ann and Jim Corbett
